Evi is a PhD student in cultural anthropology at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands. She studies the phenomenon of gangs and urban violence in the metropolis of Guatemala, since 2012.

Her ethnographic work focuses on gang members held in a prison for adult men and residents of an urban neighborhood with a high presence of gangs.

Occasionally she visits a prison for adult women and juvenile detention centers, police units, and expert groups.

Her research work focuses on gang life, embodiment, religion, aesthetics and masculinities. Additionally, she contributes in conferences, among others, to issues related to the human rights of the inmates, imprisonment, violence and social order in prisons.
