Diego Piñol is a sociologist from the University of Chile, and holds a PhD in Psychology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. In addition, he has conducted additional graduate courses on Anthropology, crime prevention and violence at the local level, with young people and children.

Since 2005 he has been a researcher at the Citizen Security Studies Center (CESC) of the Institute of Public Affairs (INAP) at the University of Chile.

He has participated as a researcher in various studies and evaluations of public policies in the areas of crime prevention and violence, prevention and treatment of problematic drug and alcohol consumption, prison system, criminal justice system , among other topics.
